Yunlin’s traditional fisheries are facing a decline, and the solar photovoltaic industry has emerged as a new means to revitalise Taixi Township
With climate change and the decline of traditional fisheries, the economic development of Taixi Township is facing unprecedented challenges. Chen Wenqiu, along with other landowners such as Ding Yingxian, He Chunxi and Ding Wuxiong, is also faced with finding a new way out of this environment, and Chen believes that the solar photovoltaic industry is seen as an important opportunity for transformation.
However, the pace of solar policy has been relatively slow, which has made local development a dilemma. Chen Wenqiu and other villagers hope that the government will speed up the policy and make the development of solar photovoltaics a reality, which will bring prosperity to Taixi.
Young people such as Roger Hsu and Billy Hung, as promoters of local revitalisation, believe that through cooperation with local communities, they can promote the transformation of the industry, create more job opportunities, attract more local young people to stay in Taixi, and young people who have left their hometowns to return to Taixi, so as to reduce the problem of aging.
Sam Lee, representative of NEFIN, also mentioned that as local operators, they are not only the independent green power producer, but also hope to establish closer ties with local communities, to seek resources from the central and local governments, so as to achieve a situation of coexistence and co-prosperity.
